In today’s business environment, companies have to remain progressively more competitive in a global market. As more and more companies and individuals from the Pacific Rim do business with each other, businesses struggle to find an edge, to separate themselves from the group. Organizations that recognize the multicultural nature of life will succeed, while others fail.
One way to ensure your company’s maximum chance of success is to use an ethnically sensitive image, like an Asian stock photo, to connect audiences to ideas, products, and other audiences. Words can be jumbled, translations might be twisted, but dynamic, enduring, familiar images always speak volumes. Customary faces, clothing, and situations all work together to put a client, consumer, or audience at ease.
To choose the best image, you want to be quite careful to pick one that is relevant to the way people really live. Do not fall into the trap of cultural references and imagery originating from bygone eras. Rather, find an image that is oriented to the future, one that encapsulates your customers’ imagination of what they want to become. By finding the most appropriate image, your company is that much closer to capturing the heart of a lifestyle or ethnic group.
Perhaps the prime value of using an Asian stock photo is that the job has already been done for you. You may know what sort of photo or image you need, but actually getting it can present many problems. If you use a stock photo, there is no need to hire a model and photographer, hire a lawyer to draft release forms, set up a photo shoot, process the photo, and then look at hundreds of photos of the same model, all the while trying to isolate which one is the absolute best. The selection process has been done for you, offering up only the most sophisticated images from which to choose.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the right picture can be priceless.
“The way I lay out my book can have an impact on my final printing cost?” In a one-word answer: Yes!
For example, most offset printers use 32-page signatures. This means that you will want to keep your page count divisible by 8, 16, or 32. A 130-page book can cost a fair amount more to print than a 128-page book, so it’s worth trying to figure out how to get rid of those two extra pages, if at all possible.
So what are some of the tricks to adjust the number of pages? First of all, see if you can adjust your margins slightly. Slight changes probably are not noticeable to most readers, but the price difference will definitely be noticeable to you.
Another easy change to make is to adjust the line spacing or leading. Here, too, a small adjustment can have a major impact on the page count. Don’t go overboard - if you look at your adjustment and it looks too squished, it might not be worth it. Get a second or third opinion to make sure your book remains readable.
Note: There are a couple exceptions to the 32-page signature rule. Digital printers don’t print with signatures, so page counts only need to be divisible by 2. Also, every once in a while you’ll run into a sheetfed printer that uses 12-page signatures. Be sure to always ask your printer if there is a more economical page count that might save you money.
Finally, check with your printer regarding the size of your book. If you are printing a non-standard-sized book, the printer probably has some paper waste on the press. That paper waste equals extra cost for you.
Don’t assume that the trim size you are using for your book will work just fine. Ask your printer’s sales rep for recommendations for your trim size. Maybe they will recommend that you drop your size by just 1/8″ or 1/4″. Wouldn’t it be worth it to do that to save money on the print run? Almost certainly!
What makes a New York Web design company any different from other Web design companies? That’s easy Competition. Just look at how many design firms there are out there and you will see what I mean! In the city or outside, someone seeking high quality Web design in New York faces hundreds of choices in an area of just a few city blocks. Now that’s competition!
If you are not from the area it can be difficult to envision. This might help Imagine typing “New York web design” into Google’s search box and getting hundreds of pages with thousands of links of returns. Instead of clicking on those links however, you’re walking into hundreds of offices; each offering their own unique flavor of Web design.
Although a bit daunting, with all that competition comes something good; a competitive edge that is crucial in a tightening economy. Sure, we all have to look good on the Web, but when you are competing with your physical neighbors as well as online competition; you have to take it to a whole new level.
That said; here are some inside tips from a successful New York Web design company. We will focus specifically on Website usability, which has the unique distinction of being both the most important and principal consideration yet which is generally least considered.
To begin with, most visitors do not actually read a Web page initially; they scan it. They want to see if there is something worth actually reading before committing to it. So you need to grab their attention and keep it at least long enough to get them to the next grabber. Here’s how to do it…
1.) Use your most important keywords as the anchor text (that’s the text comprising the hypelinked words) in your links throughout your page’s content. This is a biggie! Want to see how big?
2.) Be as consistent as possible with you functional areas; especially navigation links (top, left, right, etc.) search boxes, login fields, and anything else that needs user interaction.
3.) Embed a link to your homepage within your company logo. This is expected by just about every site visitor who has been on the Web for any length of time. It’s a safety net many users rely and to deny it could result in major inconvenience to your visitors.
4.) Add a search box that searches ONLY within your site. Don’t bother with one that offers to Search The Web. It’s like giving your visitor an invitation to leave your site. What might help Google’s advertisers isn’t always good for you. Besides, why encourage users to leave your site?
Also bear in mind that you want search engines to be able to easily find and get what it needs from your site in addition to live ors. A pretty Website is nowhere near enough. To be found by customers you must first be found by search engines. To do this we use something called search engine optimization or SEO. Following are 3 “must do” items for your Website to do list, if you want your site at the top of Google.
1.) Use keywords as anchor text (the visible clickable words) in your links throughout your page’s content. This is huge! Allow me to demonstrate how powerful this one element can be.
Navigate to Google.com and conduct a search for the term “Click Here” (no quotes.) Take note of two things right away… Number one, there are more than 1.6 billion other (competing) Web pages. Number two, the top match returned is a link to Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Ready for the crazy part that might destroy your conceptions of what matters most in SEO? The words Click Here do not appear anywhere on the page or in the META tags. It’s number 1, of 1.6 Billion competing Web pages, because thousands of other Websites used “Click Here” as their anchor text of choice in the URL for the download page. Crazy huh? This is great news for you! You can easily take advantage of that power by linking to and from pages within your Website. Which leads us nicely into Tip number two…
2.) If you deem that SEO is a priority for your site, create a unique page for each of your main keywords. Just be sure to link the anchor text from each page to the page that has that specific keyword as its focus.
Industry Advice: If you are a blog specialist or Web designer by trade, offering SEO as part of your services is a natural fit that can double the value of your work, or more. With so many good SEO products available to help you get professional results with minimal effort, you can usually rely on reputation as a good indicator of potential success. For example, eBay, Motorola and Lexmark all stake their online success on a tool you can get for $250 at http://www.iBusinessPR0M0TER.com.
3.) Keep pertinent anchor text at the top of your mind when requesting inbound links from other sites. This is the yardstick by which Google measure’s site quality.
Take this opportunity to build your brand in your own words. Remember, once you have the visitor, you have to keep them. Using the same logic as tip two, you should always request specific keywords be used as anchor text in the links from other sites to your pages. It’s also better to have each link go to the most logical page. Some to the home page are fine but you really want relevant deep linking as much as possible.
Be Warned: Reciprocal link farms can get your site penalized on Google! Simple reciprocal linking, via automated script or link farm, is easily recognized by Google. There’s a much better way if you need the “set it and forget it” convenience. We’ll look at one now
If you need to build links quickly or don’t have the time to dedicate to requesting links yourself, you can use a service that does “3 way linking.? It’s the ideal ?set it and forget it? option without worrying about reciprocal links being tracked. A service called 3 Way Linker (http://www.3WayLinker.com) is one of several that do this nicely and affordably.
It’s so simple that it’s brilliant. Imagine that ?Site A” links to ?Site B” then ?Site B” links to ?Site “C”. Finally ?Site C” links to ?Site A”. Using this method each is a true one way link.
That’s it for the time being. Best of luck!
When conferencing with any professional web designer, it’s likely the term “photoshopping” is going to be heard at least once. This is just a simple example of how popular Photoshop really has become- it has its own verb! This brings new meaning to the urge to learn how Photoshop works, since it has indeed become a household name.
Photoshop tutorials are almost everywhere on the Internet, scattered around different tutorial websites. Most tutorial websites will have a lot of the same Photoshop tutorials- so it’s usually a good idea to look for a Photoshop tutorial that comes from a personal webpage or an Internet forum. This isn’t to say all tutorial directories are the same, but many are.
The average Photoshop tutorial is going to teach the user how to use several different Photoshop functions- mostly in editing graphics. If you are new to Photoshop, it’s recommended you find more basic tutorials that show users which tools do what, and how to access them via keyboard shortcuts. For intermediate users, learning about Photoshop filters and editing techniques is going to improve one’s skill set.
If you’re looking for a challenge even after learning some tough tutorials, you may look into the process of coding a template. Internet templates are hard to create since the designer has to be able to make the design, and then turn around and code the website so that it can be viewed over the Internet. Optimizing a website is the hardest part of the process- but it is also why some web designers make six figures each year.
The best place to find good Photoshop tutorials is to take advantage of designer resources, forums, and directories that spell out everything designers need to learn to get their entry into the designing industry. Social networking applications such as StumbleUpon allows designers to “stumble” onto new designing resources they may find of interest. As most will agree, this is one of the best ways to get into the practice of becoming a better web designer.
Getting started with Photoshop is going to be tough since the application costs so much money. Thankfully there are usually discounts for business and student usage of the program. While earlier versions of Photoshop could easily cost several hundred dollars, recent versions will usually be obtained for much less. Regardless of this fact, be prepared to shell out quite a bit of money for this valuable program.

Knowing how to use Photoshop can mean the difference between having a job and being unemployed. Obviously, it’s better to take a few weeks and learn all there is about Photoshop than to have a poor outlook on a job history. If you’d like to learn more, consult Internet resources and follow previously mentioned tips in getting to know Photoshop.
Sometimes the most difficult part is knowing where to start. Have you ever had someone show you just how to do some something. They go click, click, and click - Done! And you’re none the wiser; You see everything is easy once you know how. That’s my purpose here. It is to help you see it as easy. So let’s look at these four steps.
First Step: Choose Size
To start move your mouse to “File” and click “New”. Next you are asked to specify the size of the new graphic. Usually you will already know what size you need as you will be creating a graphic for a particular purpose. Let’s say we are going to make a header graphic for a web page. On a sales page the headers are usually about 700 pixels wide by about 120 pixels high.
Second Step: Decide On A Background.
There are three options to choose from. 1. We could put in a solid color as the background. 2. For more flair we may decide on a gradient. 3. We could insert a picture as our background.
To insert a solid color, these are the steps we must follow. On the left of the work area is a floating toolbox. Towards the bottom of this box are two small squares, one over the other. Click the top one and a color picker comes up. Click the mouse on the color required for the background and click OK. The color of the top square is now your chosen color. From this floating tool box choose the bucket tool. If you don’t see it, move the mouse over each tool until you find the gradient tool. Right click it and choose bucket.
Having chosen the color, move your mouse over the new graphic. Your mouse pointer turns into a bucket and click. The color you chose in the tool box is now your background color.
If you decide that you want a gradient as your background, you will need to turn the bucket tool into the gradient tool. Once again you will need to choose a color. This time you will need to use both boxes. The gradient starts with the top color and finishes with the bottom color you have chosen.
You will notice that on the top bar above your work area you now have some new options. These will allow you to choose the look of your gradient. Experiment with this until you find something you like. To create the gradient, click and hold down the mouse and drag a line from one end to the other. Where you click is the start of the gradient and where you drag to is the end of the gradient.
To use a picture is easy. With the newly created graphic still in the work area, open a file of the picture you want to use. This picture needs to be the same size or larger than the graphic you are creating. Pick up this picture with the mouse and drag and drop it into the graphic you are creating. If the picture is larger than the new graphic you will be able to move it around until it looks to be in the best position.
Please note: this does not work with Gif Files.
Step 3: Import more images.
Photoshop works with layers. Each time you import something or introduce more text you create a new layer. To the right of your work area you should see “Layers”. Click on it and now it will display all the layers in the graphic. Clicking on a layer in this box will make it the active layer, and you will be able to work on this layer.
You could now import a picture. Just use the drag and drop method mentioned earlier. When you do this you will notice that not only do you get the picture but also some background you don’t want. You can remove this with the eraser tool.
If your background is all one color, let’s say white, you can use the magic eraser. Right click on the eraser. Three options will appear. Choose “Magic Eraser”. Move your mouse to the part of the picture you want to get rid of and click. In one click it will remove the unwanted background of the picture you dragged in. While you are in that layer you can move this picture to where you want it by picking it up with your mouse.
Fourth Step: Text
Each time you insert new text it creates a new layer. I have found that Photoshop does not always space the lines of text the way I like. To overcome this I create each line in a new layer. This allows me to move each layer where I want so I achieve the look I desire.
To ad text just click on the text tool. “T”. You can choose your font and the size of the text as you would in any word processor.
Now that your text is in place it can be enhanced and made to stand out. Make sure the text you want to work with is the active layer. On the top bar of the work area is “Layer”. Click it and choose “Layer Style”. This will open up numerous options. To get an idea of what each of these does just play and experiment with it. As you choose an option it will instantly be seen before you commit it.
There you are you have finished a simple but professional graphic you could use in a web site.
There is only one thing left to do. Save it. First save it in Photoshop PSD as this will allow you to come back and edit it. Next if you wish to use it as a web graphic you can “Save it for Web and Devices”. This will create a smaller faster loading file for web pages.
A 1st impression in terms of the internet is the 1st time someone uses an internet browser to open up a specific Blog. Most men and women read from the top down, that would logically prove that the 1st part of any Blog that most men and women see is the header graphic. The header graphic is the portion of the Blog that has the Blog’s name and usually a graphic picture of some sort.
With that much importance riding on the look and feel of the header graphic of a Blog, it is puzzling then why some websites pay such little attention to making sure their Blog’s header graphic projects a positive and exciting picture. A poorly designed, or amateurish looking, Blog header graphic is one of the fastest ways to lose the traffic that has come to the Blog.
When someone opens up the 1st page of the weblog, if they see something that looks unprofessional then they may look at going to another site that may take the material they’re looking for a little more seriously. The last thing any weblog should want to do is turn male and women away that come to visit it because from the looks of their top header image they appear to be an unprofessional or amateurish site.

Professional image designers are available in different places online and finding an experienced one with good references should not be too much of a challenge.
With a professionally designed header graphic picture added to the top of a Blog, 1st time viewers of that Blog assume that they have come to a site that is better than some of the sites out there that appear to be hobby sites. A header graphic design that gives off the feeling that it was professionally done can add to the legitimacy of the overall Blog.
This works for more than just the homepage too, as most websites use the same header graphic picture on every page within the whole Blog.

With that in mind, a professionally designed graphic image at the top of every page in a website means that no matter what page someone surfs to as a result of what came up in search engine results, their first impression will be a good one.

Truly one of the most majestic and magical of all the mythical beasts the dragon demands the attention it constantly receives in the world of tattoo designs. Dragon are prevalent design and symbolic elements throughout Asia including Chine and especially Japan. This has lead to a great deal of Japanese and Chinese artwork to use this mythical beasts as a central theme in their tattoo design work.
Japanese Dragon Tattoo Possibilities
There are really an endless number of possibilities when considering getting a dragon tattoo design. The size, style and location of the dragon can greatly change and enhance the symbolism behind the design. For example a dragon with fiery red eyes wrapped around a large sword might represent strength and power. Yet on the opposite end of the spectrum one depicted flying high in the clouds above a lake or the mountains might be a symbol for peace and freedom. What your dragon will symbolize is really dependent on the design and style you choose to give the dragon.
Dragon History In Japan
Dragons are a fundamental mythical animal or beast tot he Japanese people. In the Japanese language dragons are referred to as “Ryu” or often “Tatsu”. They of course are large yet slender serpent looking creatures. Often they live around large bodies of water such as the ocean of a big lake. They are well respected as a creature that has tremendous power and therefore the Japanese believe that the very first emperor of Japan had descended from a dragon and therefore is partially god himself.
Throughout Asian the dragon is a very significant animal that is part and parcel f the culture. In Japan like many other countries that Dragon is a sacred animal that has always inhabited the earth. There are numerous stories, myths, and legends as well as extensive art and design work.
One can see the long history and importance role that dragons play in the prevalent use of dragons throughout Japan. Today it is very common to see dragon sculptures at alters, temples and other places of worship. Miyajima is probably one of the most famous temples dedicated to the dragon. Miyajima means The Isle Of The Temple and is a popular place for religious pilgrimage, tourists and travelers to come and pray to the dragon god for good luck and good fortune. Another famous spot can be found at the Sonsoji Temple in Asakusa Japan.
At the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa Japan every spring is a very special time of year. It is rumored that way back in 628 AD two brothers were fishing along the Sumida river. During their fishing trip they discovered a beautiful statue of Kanon the Goddess of Mercy. At the time they made this discovery a gold dragon flew out of the Sumida river and up into the sky as a way to mark such an important event and such a big finding. Thus every spring the dragon in taken out oft he Sesoji temple and then paraded around the temple grounds.
Followers of both the Taoist and Buddhist religions believe that the dragon can also represent some of the hardships that one must face in their journey towards spiritual enlightenment.
Dragons are also featured throughout Japanese literary works. One of the first appearances of a dragon like beast is the beast named Yamata-No-Orochi. Yamata No Orochi is a eight headed serpent like beast that devours young women. In the story a man named Susanoo tricks the beast and gets him drunk on Sake and then is able to slay him. In later literary works dragons are seen as much more benign creatures.
As you can see form above the dragon is prevalent throughout the Japanese culture and their are many examples of this mythical beast in the art and architecture. The dragon can also be found throughout many of the more traditional tattoo designs. Thus gives you a wide variety of options to choose from and can help in getting the perfect tattoo you want. The most common location for a large dragon tattoo of course is the back. This makes a great back piece and the design can be done very large and therefore with a lot of detail. However you are not locked into only getting a back tattoo. If you want something a little smaller or for whatever reason don’t want a back piece a dragon can easily be done on your shoulder, calf, and even a sleeve tattoo design.
